stlhiphop50: Murphy’s Law ain’t just the title of Murphy Lee’s album

Yo!!! I was ready to flick this switch weeks ago after spending a year dusting my shit off, revamping, reconstructing and relaunching stlhiphop to coincide with the 50th year anniv of hip hop.

This was something I wanted to get back to in the past, but Ferguson, life, covid… Murphy’s Law ain’t just the title of Murphy Lee’s album I’m here to tell ya, it seemed that everything that could go wrong did including the murder of Darren Seals who was supposed to be the face.

His death, watching mofos in the movement sellout and cats in the scene who claim to love St. Louis and have the city on their backs ignored my repeated calls to take a stand against children being murdered and even St. Louis being named the Child Murder Capital made me say fuck it.

It was only after conversations I had with my long term mentor and friend Paradise Gray about my frustrations that any of this came about. He reminded me this is bigger than me, bigger than the fakes and the grifters. Oh and created stlhiphop over 20 years ago and have been subsidizing the scene every since.

Like I said, I was ready to flick the switch on the relaunch of the social media platform, stlhiphop radio (Alexa) and debut stlhiphop tv (Roku) and started getting hit up about Kevin Johnson’s 50 Most Impactful MOMENTS in St. Louis hip hop prompted me to launch stlhiphop50 a lot sooner… It was already in the works as you may have seen by my use of #stlhipop50 on social media. Kevin’s list read like a list I would expect from a pop music critic, not a diss at Kevin, this is industry wide… Billboard, Rolling Stone and urrbody and their momma got a list. Even artists and I take the same offense: They DON’T dictate, WE dictate. So I asked OGs, respected playas in the game and true heads to help me school y’all. And for the record.

And when say, “As Told By The Sista That Birth It”… (continued on stlhiphop50.com)
