Lemme preface and say, an investigation of the city AND county jails is long overdue. People are dying. But don’t get it twisted, none of these black leaders gives af about the condition of the jail. Any issue facing black people. Or any of us.
They are about power. And staying in office. And going after their political enemies. And they will work with the same Republicans they call racist to achieve those means. They just won’t work with them to make our lives better.
The latest in the battle between old black St. Louis misleadership and the new disastrous progressive movement led by Mayor Tishaura Jones. Missouri Auditor Fitzgerald opened the investigation after receiving a request from Democratic state Sen. Steve Roberts “who said he received whistleblower complaints alleging inmate abuse”.
Not surprised. At all. For one, an investigation into the city jail is loooong overdue. It’s been plagued with issues for well over decade. And Kim Gardner tenure exacerbated every issue. It shouldn’t have taken three deaths in a six-week period. The Mayor’s lackadaisical response and continued support of Corrections Commissioner Jennifer Clemons-Abdullah is the Kim Gardner saga all over again. And speaking of Kim Gardner, the auditor has still yet to release an audit of her reign at the Circuit Attorney’s Office. St, Louis is pretty much begging for an investigation.
Second, the fact that Mayor Jones came out against Robert and endorsed the trainwreck that is Cori Bush for US Rep AND sabotaged his quest for Circuit Attorney after Kin Gardner’s abrupt departure. And getting Team Jones to rehash Cora Faith Walker’s rape allegations.
There is no love lost between Roberts and Jones and as you can see this is Dem on Dem and Black on Black. Not whit supremacist boogiemen. And not Republicans in Jefferson City, This is continuation of the same battle between the old black misleadership class and and black faced progressivism led by the rejects.
But even still I’ll take it, even if Steve Roberts is only doing this to redeem his reputation and insert himself into the movement. Otherwise he would have made this move years ago, the conditions of the jail were not secret. He didn’t care until he needed a reason to care and he doesn’t care now, he just needs an issue.
And easy win.
